About
Michelle Malentina, known on the stage as Malentina, is a theatre and film actor, screenwriter, singer, songwriter and producer from Ponce, Puerto Rico and is currently based in Lafayette, Louisiana. Her most recent film credits include Violet in “Violet Butterfield: Makeup Artist for the Dead” an award-winning short film that was selected in the acclaimed Horror Film Festival, Final Girls Film Festival, in Berlin Germany and Renegade Film Festival in Georgia; Gabe in Americana Dream, a feature film currently in post-production as well as many national commercials.
As a singer song-writer and stage performer, Malentina is known as “The Mambo Queen of the South”. Her music is heavily influenced by Spanish and Afro-cuban music which is the foundation of her mambos, son montunos, boleros and cha cha chas. Her biggest sources of inspiration include old Hollywood films, Latin club songs of the 70’s, burlesque, and her life in Louisiana and in Puerto Rico. At the core of Malentina’s writing is a nostalgic sound with a contemporary approach.
